The title

t=E/x² is an unusual title, but once you have absorbed it, you will never forget it. t stands for time, E for energy and x for the unknown. So it is an assumption that time and energy are related, but the answer in which context will be left to the audience.

The Structure

Time loop films exist, but t=E/x² is the first to tell a 3 minute loop in real time and does not take shortcuts. This makes it directly the most consistent film of its kind.

At the end of each loop, time does not simply start over. Instead, the film then initially takes place in time running backwards - until our protagonist learns to do something backwards that didn't happen forwards, slowing down the time loop through this paradox.

The mix of black and white and color clarifies the structure.

World record

t=E/x² should hold the world record for the feature film with the most scenes played backwards.

Steampunk

Steampunk combines modern and futuristic technical features with Victorian-era resources and materials, creating a distinctly retro look to the technology. Very popular as a literary genre, rather rare in films. At first glance, t=E/x² is not a steampunk film, but there are steampunk elements that should certainly please the fan scene.

Filming locations

The film is primarily a chamber play in the first half. The protagonist Merlin is alone with his time loop and the story unfolds slowly. This makes the finale, which was shot in the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote, in the snow, in the canalization and underwater in the open sea, all the more powerful.

Otherwise, the original set from the film "Das Boot" served as a special filming location, here as the vehicle of the time traveler Thadeus Moff.
